I DID IT!!!!

I completed NaNoWriMo, and with a few hours to spare. Yaaaaaaaaaaay!!!! To say that I'm thrilled is an understatement. I really feel that I've managed a great accomplishment...and have a great start to what I'm hoping will be my first novel.

NaNoWriMo - the push is on!!

I've decided to attempt the previously unattempted feat of NaNoWriMo this year. For those who are uneducated in this area, check out their site at http://www.nanowrimo.org

50,000 words in 30 days...piece of cake right? That only...pulls out handy dandy calculator...1667 words a day. I can do that...er...I think...er...I hope. Well, so far so good. I'm three days in and meeting that goal at least. Just need to get far enough ahead to make up for down time at the holidays (Turkey comas make for difficult writing motivation) and mom and I are risking "Black Friday" this year, so that could complicate things.

Oh well...I'm going to give it my best shot. And that's all I can promise.

Dragging Out the Soapbox...

Okay, here it is...my newest rant. Excuse me while I climb up on this thing...

WHY ARE SUPPOSED MEN OF GOD SUCH IGNORANT...IGNORANT...AND DID I SAY IGNORANT PEOPLE WHERE GOD IS CONCERNED.

I will now apologize for shouting, but I'm so danged mad right now I could spit.

If you've been watching the news recently, are you as outraged and saddened as I am, by the sheer audacity of people who profess to be the bastions of God's love?

First there is the whole Mosque at Ground Zero controversy. And let me be fair on this, I think the insensitivity is on both sides here. The general, Christian public should take a lesson from Jesus and practice tolerance, and understand that average run of the mill Muslim is no more a radical extremist than they are. The US was built on the concepts of religious tolerance...what happened??? As for the Muslims who are proposing the mosque...shame on you too. Knowing how sensitive a location Ground Zero is, why, why, why...in the name of your God and mine, do you press this issue. There are certainly many more suitable pieces of land you could choose from in New York. Pick one and move on!

And then there's Terry Jones and the congregants of his church and their "Burn a Koran Day" planned for this weekend. This man is ignorant and an abomination. Plain and simple. Get him OFF the media. Take away his spotlight. He does not deserve one ounce of attention, for his behavior. Interesting that he was a pastor in a Cologne, Germany church. Perhaps he learned his book burning skills from another infamous German. Just remember my dear friends, "Those who burn books, will eventually burn people."

'Nuf said.

A Seinfeld Blog

It's about absolutely nothing. Blah...blah....blah...

Actually that just about describes today for me. Blah! So much so, that I don't even have a rant to rave about at this moment. That's pretty darned bad. Oh well...maybe a day off tomorrow will help. I am hoping, for sure, that it will help with some writing. I'm going to go back to my "Writing Down the Bones" Zen approach to writing book and am determined to diligently follow her first rule of writing. PRACTICE EVERY DAY!!! That's my goal, and I'd better get to it, if I'm to have any hope at all of managing to accomplish NaNoWriMo this year. I'm psyched, and I want to succeed, so I've got to keep the positive mind set. So far so good...

Writing Revelation

I've come to a realization, one I guess deep down I've known for some amount time. I CAN write as well as or better than some published authors.

How did I come about this wonderful epiphany, you might ask?

Well, I have been working my way through some OLD F&SF magazines that I've had hanging around - no, don't you dare ask HOW long *cough* can you say early 80s? *cough* - and as I read some of the absolutely DREADFUL stories in this acclaimed magazine of SF and Fantasy writing, I can only think: "Oh my gawd, if I wrote like that, I'd give it up and take up needlepoint or some such less offensive craft." But then, on second thought, it only drove home to me the compelling idea of: "Hey, if they can get paid to publish such utter crap as this, then what the heck is stopping me?"

Yes, yes, I know. Isn't this what any and all of my friends have been telling me for years and years?

I guess sometimes you have to be hit on the head with a rather large brick...preferably gold, and wrapped in a slice of lemon...

Taking the Blogger Plunge!

Ah yes, I've done it now...I've created another blog to neglect. I sure hope that this time I will be a more diligent and dedicated blog parent, and keep it full and well fed. I have done this, in part, to prepare for my plunge into the world of NaNoWriMo <EEEEK>.

I have also decided that I need a forum for my rants where they will be expected, and indeed welcomed, so that I may move them away from FB and my worried and well meaning friends and family. Not that I don't like their words of love and encouragement, but sometimes one just wants to rant. Especially lately!! Who doesn't, right? There is so much in the news that is rant worthy.

Well, I am off and ranting...er...running.
